Anesvad Foundation
With more than 40 years of experience in cooperation, working in the three poorest continents on the planet, we are working to promote and protect health as a Fundamental Right. We also encourage social change to tackle the structural causes of poverty, inequality and social exclusion.
ANESVAD Foundation runs development cooperation projects in the three poorest continents on the planet - Africa, Latin America and Asia - and is actually working in 18 developing countries: Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Bolivia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Nicaragua, Peru, Dominican Republic, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Philippines, India, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. We work in 3 main fields: Neglected Tropical Diseases, Primary Health Care (Community Health, Mother-Child Health and Sexual and Reproductive Health) and Trafficking.
MISSION:
To promote and protect health as a Fundamental Human Right:
- Defending health not just as the absence of illness or disease, but as a complete physical, mental, and social well-being.
- Working on political, social, economic and cultural aspects.
- Promoting alliance with actors on the South who are main agents of their own development.
VISION:
- To boost actions towards sustainable internal development, facilitating access to health for vulnerable groups in the communities of countries where we work.
- To perform social health-care actions intended for at-risk groups in our surrounding area.
- To promote social changes which allow transformation of the structural causes of poverty, inequality and social exclusion.
- To perform educational and awareness-raising projects for development which promote the transformation of the structural causes of poverty, inequality and social exclusion.
- To boost integral actions by working in a network with other organizations.

We work closely with NGOs and local institutions to encourage sustainable development in the communities where it works and thereby meet the population's real needs, whilst respecting their culture and their priorities. To do this, it promotes initiatives where the population participates actively in identifying its own needs, as well as the defining and implementing actions that help to improve their standard of living. It also focuses its work on the people who are most at risk and marginalised within the poor population, whose rights are therefore worst-protected. This is often the case for women, children, native populations and people who live on the edges of towns and in rural areas, as well as people with disabilities or without the correct identity papers.
In addition, ANESVAD Foundation runs a social action area from its central headquarters, located in the city of Bilbao (Spain). This targets neglected and unprotected collectives where disease and lack of economic resources go hand in hand. Socio-health actions are supported and promoted here, linked to resolving the most urgent and usual needs of these collectives, providing and facilitating access to the medication they need for one-off or continuous treatment.
