ANESVAD Foundation is a Non Profit and Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), which works in health and social development projects in Asia, Latin America and Africa.
It was founded in Bilbao in 1968, with the purpose of helping poor and needy patients. In 1970, with the help of Father Javier Olazábal S.I., ANESVAD began fighting against leprosy disease in the island of Culion (Philippines). This way, ANESVAD began its international work. Progressively, it has spread its work to different fields – general health assistance, child sexual exploitation, Buruli ulcer, HIV/AIDS- around different countries.
Beyond projects and programmes carried out in developing countries, ANESVAD implements public awareness and education campaigns for development in Spain. Publications and different activities are carried out in order to raise public awareness within the Spanish society about the situation of developing countries.
The development projects are supported by more than 160,000 partners
and collaborators from all over Spain, and the financial support from
city councils, governmental institutions, and the AECI (Spanish Agency
of International Cooperation).
Local counterparts, religious congregations, and NGOs carry out the work on the field. The main objective is to seek for the beneficiaries’ involvement and the sustainability of the projects implemented. ANESVAD works on the promotion of people’s self-sufficiency.
