The Challenge
In Benin there is only one doctor per 10,000 inhabitants.
The Benin public health system is one of the most fragile in Sub-Saharan Africa. To turn this situation around, the Benin Government and Administration must commit to allocating resources and action plans which guarantee the population’s Right to Health.
Furthermore, it is vital that the population knows their rights and can benefit from care and basic health services.
The solution
We have joined forces with the Coalition for Universal Health Coverage in Benin (COBCUS) to strengthen the country’s health system by:
- Working with the government and public organisations to improve the way it is managed, health provisions, medical technology and access to medicines.
- Raising awareness so that the population is aware of their right to Health and defends it.
- Promoting community-level activities so that more resources are assigned to NTDs.
Impact
Through this initiative we want to attain greater commitment to improving the health system in Benin.
Via raised awareness, we aim to bring about changes to government behaviour and ensure the population is aware of and demands their rights.
