The Challenge
Women and girls from Saint Camille de Davougon need opportunities to leave exclusion behind.
Saint Camille de Davougon Hospital is a major health complex which accommodates, among others, people with NTDs and their families.
Many children and teenagers live there, some of whom suffer from NTDs such as leprosy and have an uncertain future.
The solution
Through a project in collaboration with Caritas, we drive forward the Davougon Women’s Centre, where teenagers and young women who are orphaned or have been abandoned and left there receive support for their school and professional education.
This project seeks to contribute to sustainable empowerment and the professional integration of these young people, some of whom suffer from NTDs such as leprosy. With the collaboration of Caritas, we:
- Organise internships for these young women in their final year of study.
- Train these young women in business start-ups and ventures, financial education and management.
- Organise sessions to exchange experiences to strengthen leadership and the personal development of women who live in Davougon.
- Carry out a post-employment follow-up for these young women to avoid them becoming involved in forced or early marriage, unwanted pregnancy or begging.
Impact
We want women and girls suffering from a forgotten disease who live in Davougon to be self-sufficient and learn a profession.
Through a training and psychosocial support plan, we will improve their health and financial independence.
