The Challenge
There must be joint efforts to end a dozen NTDs in Ivory Coast.
Since 2013, Ivory Coast has developed a Management Plan of Integrated Control for the dozen NTDs present in the country with the support of the Anesvad Foundation.
NTDs are a huge burden for hundreds of thousands of people in Ivory Coast, many of whom lack access to adequate health care, drinking water and sanitation, housing, education and information. Girls and women are the most vulnerable part of the population and those most affected by forgotten diseases.
The solution
After 20 years of cooperation in the country, we continue to strenghten the country’s health system and effectively and efficiently fight against NTDs by:
- Working in six Ivorian districts where NTDs are endemic.
- Monitoring Ivorian health systems and strengthening prevention strategies: developing capacities, active detection, raising awareness…
- Providing people affected by NTDs with effective general health care.
- Improving the promotion, coordination, evaluation and surveillance of the fight against NTDs in the field and in every community.
Impact
Integral management of skin-related NTDs such as the Buruli ulcer, yaws, leprosy and lymphatic filariasis in Ivory Coast can avoid thousands of infections every year.
Attaining a robust system of awareness, detection and notification of cases will help improve the health of thousands of people and will guarantee their Right to Health via access to early and high-quality care.
