Goal 5
Gender equality
The Anesvad Foundation is dedicated to promoting health and well-being in vulnerable communities worldwide. To achieve this mission, we embrace the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, aligning with the principle that gender equality is essential for ensuring the Right to Health and fostering sustainable development in the communities we serve.
Our Gender in Development (GED) approach is integrated into all our initiatives, emphasising women’s empowerment and leadership in projects, including research and treatment of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). Women make up 75% of the beneficiaries of our financial inclusion and well-being programmes. We support them through research initiatives, such as the “La Beca de Todas” (The Scholarship for All), and strive for gender parity in leadership roles.
We address this goal through the following actions:
- Eliminating gender barriers in access to healthcare: We prioritise women and girls, who are disproportionately affected by poverty, discrimination and neglected diseases, ensuring equitable access to health services.
- Prioritising care for women and girls in vulnerable situations: Building on the above, we ensure health interventions reach them, enabling them to exercise their right to health without discrimination.
- Promoting training and leadership programmes for women: We empower women, particularly in rural and marginalised areas, to actively participate in decision-making related to community health and well-being.
- Combating stigma and social exclusion: Many women with Neglected Tropical Diseases face stigma and exclusion. We promote their social, educational and economic inclusion to address these challenges.
- Integrating a gender perspective: We incorporate gender equity into all aspects of our projects (design, implementation and evaluation), from building healthcare infrastructure to conducting community awareness campaigns.
“Our mission is to advance health equity, empower women and eliminate discrimination”
