Goal 3
Good health and well-being
At the Anesvad Foundation, we centre our efforts on ensuring the Right to Health in highly vulnerable contexts, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a special focus on combating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). Our strategy aligns closely with this Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) through programmes that strengthen healthcare infrastructure, promote access to diagnostics and treatments and support local scientific research.
We address Goal 3 (our most significant contribution to the SDGs) by prioritising NTDs with cutaneous manifestations (leprosy, Buruli ulcer, leishmaniasis, yaws and mycetoma). We work with public health systems by training personnel, providing equipment and supporting national health strategies in countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin. Additionally, through partnerships with the World Health Organization (WHO), we have signed agreements to enhance NTD responses across 10 African countries.
We bring these goals to life through efforts that include:
- Prevention and early detection: We conduct community campaigns to identify NTD symptoms early, preventing severe complications, disabilities and transmission. We train local leaders and community health workers to support these efforts.
- Free diagnosis and treatment: We ensure patients have access to clinical diagnostics and effective treatments at no cost, which is critical in rural and remote areas with limited medical access.
- Training and professionalisation of healthcare personnel: We equip doctors, nurses and technical staff with skills to diagnose and treat neglected diseases, using an intercultural, patient-centred approach.
- Improvement of healthcare infrastructure: We renovate health centres, install medical equipment and provide clean water and electricity to rural facilities to ensure safe and dignified conditions for communities.
- Awareness-raising and combating stigma: Through public and educational campaigns, we fight discrimination faced by people with NTDs, promoting social inclusion and respect for human rights.
- Community-based health promotion: Our interventions incorporate the knowledge and active participation of beneficiary communities, fostering local ownership and programme sustainability.
- Public health research: We fund studies on NTDs and their social determinants, supporting local scientific evidence to improve health strategies in specific contexts.
- Support for African women researchers: Through initiatives like “La Beca de Todas” (The Scholarship for All), we promote the leadership of African women in medical and scientific research, advancing gender equity in health.
- Use of technology and digital solutions: We explore artificial intelligence and mobile platforms to enhance epidemiological surveillance, data collection in remote areas and case management efficiency.
“Our mission is to strengthen public health systems down to the last community”
