The challenge
Neglected Tropical Diseases with Cutaneous Manifestations (skin-related NTDs) remain a major challenge for Côte d’Ivoire’s healthcare system.
In many areas, people find it difficult to access specialised care and appropriate treatment.
Limited healthcare resources, gender inequalities, certain cultural barriers and the stigma surrounding some of these diseases can delay diagnosis and prevent people from receiving the care they need in time.
The solution
The initiative strengthens the capacity of the health services at Jean Baptiste Vatelot Hospital to provide comprehensive care for people affected by skin diseases associated with NTDs. The project provides training for healthcare staff, improves the resources available for medical care and promotes awareness-raising, prevention and early detection activities in affected communities. It also boosts the coordination, follow-up and monitoring mechanisms within the healthcare system itself.
Impact
The intervention helps ensure that people affected have access to specialised care that is better suited to their needs.
At the same time, it strengthens the skills of healthcare teams and local organisations responsible for preventing, diagnosing and treating these diseases.
In addition, awareness-raising and support activities promote a greater understanding of these conditions within communities and help create more inclusive environments for the people living with them.
