From research to action: helping leprosy evidence influence policy and practice

From research to action: helping leprosy evidence influence policy and practice
LRI workshop in Delhi.

The Anesvad Foundation has promoted the Research Dissemination and Policy Translation Workshop, an initiative being held between the 13th and the 17th of October, designed to help leprosy researchers communicate their findings and translate evidence into policies and health practices.

The workshop brings together 14 researchers from projects funded by the Leprosy Research Initiative (LRI), including four members of the RESILIENTD cohort.

Anesvad Foundation is contributing through Anna Giné, a member of the LRI Steering Committee, who mentored RESILIENTD researchers and led a session on research storytelling. Our Knowledge and Communications teams are also working with LRI through the Translating Research into Policy and Practice project to disseminate the workshop’s outcomes and strengthen the visibility and influence of the participating research.

Bridging the gap between evidence and impact

Generating knowledge is essential, but publishing research findings does not automatically lead to better health outcomes.

For research to have an impact, evidence must reach policymakers, health professionals, funders, civil society organisations and affected communities in formats they can understand and use.

During the workshop, participants are strengthening their ability to identify strategic audiences, adapt their messages and select the most effective channels. They are also exploring how their findings can inform policy debates, programme design, funding decisions and healthcare practices.

Storytelling can make complex evidence more accessible and help different audiences understand why a finding matters, what decisions it can inform and how it could improve the lives of people affected by leprosy.

The foundation´s support will continue beyond the workshop. Together with LRI, we will help amplify its outcomes and connect relevant findings with strategic audiences.

Because research does not end when results are published. Its real impact begins when evidence is understood, shared and used to improve policies and practices.
