The challenge

In Monsourou, people affected by Neglected Tropical Diseases encounter difficulties when it comes to accessing adequate healthcare services.

The lack of infrastructure, trained personnel and medical resources impede the provision of comprehensive care, especially in rural areas.

The solution

The project, launched by Aide et Solidarité, seeks to improve the local healthcare system by upgrading medical centres, training healthcare personnel, distributing medicines and raising awareness within the community. It will also provide psychosocial support and physical rehabilitation for those affected.

  • Improvement of WASH infrastructure: Improving access to basic hygiene services will be improved through the construction of three wells, three blocks of latrines, handwashing facilities and water storage systems.
  • Raising awareness of skin NTDs and hygiene practices: Through training and awareness-raising sessions aimed at women’s groups, complemented by radio broadcasts to increase the reach of the information.
  • Autonomy and capacity building: Promoting the economic autonomy of women’s groups through training in soap making and agri-food processing, promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Impact

The intervention will improve the quality of life of people with NTDs, reduce the stigma associated with these diseases, and strengthen the health system’s capacity to provide comprehensive care.

The goal is greater social inclusion and a more effective response to NTDs in Monsourou.
